Odd colours can turn out amazing – H&R Daniel ca 1825

When I purchased this wonderful set of a teacup and a milk jug made by H&R Daniel in ca 1825, I didn’t quite know what to think about the colours. It just seemed such an unusual combination: moss green, golden yellow and pink. And lots of gilding! So I placed them on my table and lived with them for a while. During that week, I totally fell in love with this beautiful set. The colours grew on me, they revealed hidden dimensions of beauty and originality, and they turned out exactly like the colours in my garden, which is revealing more flowers and greener foliage every day of spring. And of course this is what happened – Henry Daniel made no mistakes with his colours, being the most genius colour maker of the British pottery industry in the early 19th Century.
