Coffee from the Rococo Revival – Samuel Alcock, ca 1835

I fell in love with this Samuel Alcock coffeecup from around 1835, a period called the Rococo Revival. Industrialisation had brought increased wealth to Britain and many more people could afford stylish teaware – and they drank more coffee! This cup would have come with a teacup, sharing the same saucer. The style in the 1830s departed from the more restrained Georgian style, moving into a lavish Victorian fashion over time. Together with an H&R Daniel sucrier they are a wonderful match – not that I could ever consume that much sugar πŸ˜‚ Β but I adore the bright blue colour of this cup, and the warm orange and soft yellow flowers… with a touch of baby blue. You can findΒ the listing here in my Antiques shop.
