Japanese Grove demitasse cup, ca 1880

In the 1870s and 1880s there was a fashion for Oriental designs and at Coalport, Thomas Blocksidge came up with the now iconic Japanese Grove design. The blue swallows and bamboo twigs were applied underglaze in flow blue, and then the gold background was applied on top of the glaze in rich gilding. This is a very sweet little coffeecup in perfect condition. You can see the listing here in my Antiques shop.
